Alijah Arenas, a USC Prospect, Is in an Induced Coma After His Tesla Crashes

According to ESPN, USC commit and five-star men’s basketball recruit Alijah Arenas was involved in a major car accident in the Los Angeles region early Thursday morning, resulting in his placement in an induced coma.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle incident in the Reseda neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley just before 4:55 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. According to the LA Fire Department, the car was a Tesla Cybertruck that collided with a fire hydrant and tree, causing a fire. The LAFD stated that the 18-year-old driver was out of the car and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but they did not name the individual.

Later on Thursday, the Los Angeles Police Department reported that Arenas’ health was stable. According to sources who spoke to ESPN, preliminary examinations revealed he had no broken bones.

Eric Musselman, the coach of the USC men’s basketball team, stated in a statement on X: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Alijah and his family following this morning’s accident. Please keep him, his teammates and friends, and the entire Arenas family in your prayers.”

Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA great, is the father of Arenas. After reclassifying in December and committing to the Trojans in January, he is now listed as the 13th best recruit in the class of 2025.
