‘The Color Purple’ musical is definitely shaping up to be one of the year’s most highly anticipated entertainment events, but so is its star-studded companion album.
Lined with contributions from the film’s stars Fantasia, H.E.R., Ciara, Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo, Danielle Brooks, and Halle Bailey as well as original tunes from big names like Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Megan Thee Stallion, Usher, Keyshia Cole, Coco Jones, Mary Mary, and Missy Elliott, the soundtrack is set to sail to streaming services on December 15.
Ahead of the arrival of the Quincy Jones-executive produced project, its first single – ‘Lifeline‘ by Alicia Keys – has hit digital outlets.
“‘Cause your heart’s an army (Yes, it is) / Don’t gotta do this all by yourself / If you need someone you call me (All you gotta do) / You got me (All you gotta do), you got me/Oh, I can be your lifeline,” she sings on the Tricky Stewart and Marshmell0-produced tune.

The ‘Purple’ track isn’t the only exciting venture Alicia is prepping for her diehard fans this week.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of her chart-topping sophomore album, ‘Diary of Alicia Keys,’ the 15-time GRAMMY winner will perform the entire LP at an intimate concert at New York City’s Webster Hall on December 1 (as reported here).
Streaming platform VEEPS will broadcast the show live, giving fans who couldn’t attend the one-night-only event a chance to see the action. Available for free for all current Veeps All Access subscribers, music lovers can buy an individual show ticket for $14.99 on veeps.com.
As if that’s not enough, December 1 also marks the release date of ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys 20‘ – a comemorative effort that will feature nine bonus tracks (including the recently unveiled ‘Golden Child‘) in conjunction with the set’s original tracklist.
