A.J. Brown, a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, ignited a heated debate throughout the NFL this week by launching an unexpected and scathing attack on his colleagues and fellow athletes, pointing out their problematic behavior with women and a wider addiction to desire. During a social media live stream, the Pro Bowl player didn’t hold back when he asserted that NFL locker rooms are filled with “real-time pornography.”
Brown’s remarks, which went viral very fast, revealed what he believes to be a structural problem among professional football players rather than targeting a single person.
Brown claims that some of his classmates and teammates are so overcome by passion that they have sex with women on camera, with other teammates amusedly observing or filming the interactions.
With a sharp accent, he added: “Y’all addicted to lust,” “Y’all be on some real-time porn type stuff.”
The Eagles player underlined that this kind of behavior is accepted in the NFL and sometimes seen as amusing by others. According to him, this normalization is a symptom of a larger culture issue in the NFL that harmfully promotes sexual conquest and devalues women.
Brown’s angry tirade illuminates a facet of NFL culture that is rarely discussed in public, especially by prominent, current players.
