As music lovers toasted what would’ve been Aaliyah‘s 46th birthday on Thursday (January 16), major toy makers Mattel joined the celebration by unveiling a special edition Barbie inspired by the fashion donned in the late R&B star’s classic ‘One in a Million’ (1996) music video.
Shortly after they lifted the lid on the news, however, dedicated fans wasted no time snapping up the commemorative doll from digital shelves.
Fashioned after Aaliyah’s sunglasses, signature hairstyle, and all-black leather ensemble, the ‘One in a Million’ doll from Mattel immortalized the late singer like never before as part of their Barbie Music Collector Series.
“We hope the Aaliyah Barbie serves as a powerful reminder to her loyal fans and Barbie collectors everywhere that, like Aaliyah, they can unlock their limitless potential and achieve anything they set their minds to,” said Krista Berger – Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls.

Preorders were posted to MattelCreations.com, and within 30 minutes had already sold out.
Even its listing on Target’s official website (as seen below) echoed the same and is currently showing a restock date of January 26.
The sales news comes the same day Aaliyah’s label, Blackground Records, gave a promising update about the status of her first posthumous studio album ‘Unstoppable.’
