2024 Year in Review: Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Tied Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ for Most Artist GRAMMY Nods from One Album

For reasons good, bad, ugly, and everything in between, 2024 was one for the books!

As the year draws to a close, That Grape Juice is reflecting on the occasions that rocked – and to some degree – maybe even reshaped the Urban and Pop cultural landscape as we know it.

Last, we’ll talk about how Beyonce‘s history-making album ‘Cowboy Carter‘ is gearing up for success at the 2025 GRAMMYs despite being snubbed by Country music award shows all year long.

Chart Check: With ‘Cowboy Carter,’ Beyonce Breaks Tie with Janet Jackson To Become the Black Woman with the Most #1 Hits in Billboard 200 History

The week ‘Cowboy’ rode onto the Billboard 200, Bey broke Pop Queen Janet Jackson‘s longstanding record for most #1 albums among Black women in the history of the album chart.

Just months later, she nabbed headlines for tying a MAJOR record by Janet’s brother – King of Pop Michael Jackson – when ‘Cowboy’ and its content galloped to a whopping 11 nominations at the 2025 GRAMMYs including Song, Record, and Album of the year.

With its slew of mentions, ‘Carter’ quietly tied Jackson as the artist with the most nods from a single album.

While Jackson’s game-changing, 1982 ‘Thriller‘ LP captured 12 nominations for the entire project, MJ was only nominated for 11 of them as the other went to producers and behind-the-scenes acts.  Since Bey is actually nominated for the 11 captured by ‘Carter’ for next year, she tied the King’s longtime record.

Her beloved fans (affectionately called the #Beyhive) won’t find out until February 2, 2025, however, if she ties or surpasses his record for most wins in one night as ‘Thriller’ collected a whopping 8 trophies.

At writing, the only other artist to do that is Santana.

Beyonce Breaks Tie with JAY-Z to Become the Most GRAMMY-Nominated Act in HISTORY Thanks to 2025 Nominations

In some regards, Bey can already be looked at as a winner as ‘Carter’ made her the most-nominated act in GRAMMY history – a status that adds to her existent title of most-awarded act in GRAMMY history.
