Will Howard Fulfills His Michigan Pledge ; Thrashes Ohio

Following Ohio State’s defeat by Michigan, Will Howard fulfilled his promise by thrashing Tennessee in the College Football Playoffs’ opening round to secure a meeting with Oregon.

In the first round of the College Football Playoffs, Ohio State crushed Tennessee, fulfilling Will Howard’s promise made after Michigan. Howard promised they would make a deep run in the College Football Playoffs after they suffered a shocking loss to its rivals in the final regular season game, and they delivered on stage one of that promise in a big manner.

Howard was nearly unstoppable in the Buckeyes’ 42–17 victory over the Volunteers, their fourth of the CFP era, as he completed 24 of 29 passes for 311 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Howard talked about the victory and what it meant to him to win for his team in an interview with ESPN following the game.

Howard stated: “We really put together a full, all-out performance,” “And I think that was what we needed to do and what we needed to show, and I’m just so proud of this team and how we were able to bounce back from a disappointing loss to end the season. We didn’t listen to anything.”

“We really just relied on each other and came out here and put together a complete game. … It means the world, man, and, you know, at the end of the day, we all understand that we still have everything out in front of us.”

Dave Portnoy gets his answer for trolling Will Howard

Only a few weeks before Howard’s performance, renowned Michigan supporter Dave Portnoy dubbed the standout quarterback a coward following the Buckeyes’ defeat by the Wolverines. Portnoy added salt to the Buckeyes’ wounds by sharing a few videos on social media after defeating Ohio State 13–10.

Portnoy specifically targeted Howard. The founder of Barstool Sports stated:  “This guy Will Howard… you’re not playing Indiana,”  “Win, lose, or draw, this guy is a bum. We (Michigan) are playing with one hand tied behind our back. These guys are cowards. Will Howard, coward.”

Howard had 175 yards and one touchdown on 19 of his 33 pass attempts. In the clash between the two teams, he also threw two interceptions, which helped Michigan win.

That being said, Howard declared that when the time came, he and Ohio State will make a big impact in the College Football Playoff. After the three-point loss to Michigan, the star quarterback told reporters as much.
