With the historic success of 2024’s ‘Wicked‘ under his belt (and a 2025 sequel poised to match its box office domination), director Jon M. Chu is already looking ahead to his next blockbuster – a film that promises to tell the story of one of Pop music’s biggest names like never before.

On hand at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 5), Chu was quizzed by multiple outlets about the status of the rumored Britney Spears biopic.

“I really can’t talk about that yet,” he told Billboard about the upcoming Universal Pictures movie while confirming it is in the works.

Based on the Pop diva’s best-selling memoir, ‘The Woman in Me,’ the yet-titled flick – which at present does not have a tentative release date – is very much in the early stages of development according to Chu.

“I want to do her justice and tell her story right. But we’ll see. We’re developing it now and it’s a long road ahead,” he shared.

While chatting with ‘ET’ (as seen above), Jon revealed the biopic has been authorized by Spears herself and will see her play an active role in its creation.

“She’s going to be very involved. I haven’t really started anything fully yet, but she will be very involved in this,” he said. “I have ideas and things, an approach, but it’s very early.”

And though he didn’t confirm if an unknown/up-and-coming actress will assume the project’s leading role, he did admit they haven’t ruled out casting current big names in Pop like Sabrina Carpenter and Tate McRae to bring Britney’s story to life on the big screen.
