The female Rap game is definitely going to be one to watch in 2024.
Just as 3x GRAMMY-winning rapstress Megan Thee Stallion was taking to ‘Good Morning America‘ on Tuesday (January 30) to announce her new album (the long-awaited follow-up to 2022’s ‘Traumazine‘), her fellow chart-topping femcee – Ice Spice – was lifting the lid on official news about her own project on ‘The Today Show.’
Ice, who ended 2023 being crowned Billboard’s top new female artist (overall), blasted back onto the music scene after a brief hiatus on Friday (January 26) with the release of her new single ‘Think U the Sh*t (Fart).’
Taking advantage of the momentum around the RIOTUSA-produced cut, the rapper (born Isis Naija Gaston) joined resident ‘Today’ anchors Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on Tuesday to share details about the song’s parent album.
“I’m so excited,” Ice said. “It’s called ‘Y2K.’”
A reference to her birthday (January 1, 2000), the date marks a special one in history as many at the time believed in the infamous theory that asserted the first day of the new millennium would be accompanied with a crash of all computers and electronic devices.
At the time of the ‘Today’ announcement Gaston did not confirm the exact date the LP would drop but did say it’ s coming “this year.”
Its arrival would mark the first body of work she’s dropped since the deluxe edition of her debut EP ‘Like..?’ hit digital shelves in July.
