After the Knicks progressed to the Eastern Conference Finals, fans poured into the streets on Friday night, and New York firefighter Hans Perez headed toward Madison Square Garden.

But Perez wasn’t dressed in Knicks or FDNY uniforms. The Indiana Pacers, the team the Knicks will play next as they look to win their first championship since 1973, are his favorite team, and he wore their jersey.

On Monday, he stated on “The Pat McAfee Show”:

“I’ve been wearing my jersey all playoff long, I’ve been supporting my Pacers, wearing it all along, but I hadn’t gone by Madison Square Garden with the jersey,”.” “So, I said, ‘I don’t know if I can go into the mob, but I’ll go close by, feel the energy.’”

Instead, he felt like Knicks supporters were throwing bags of trash at him.

After the video went viral, McAfee found Perez and invited him to appear on his show. The Pacers’ star Tyrese Haliburton was the next surprise guest McAfee brought to Perez.

Perez was told by Haliburton: “I want to personally bring you and a plus one out here to come to Game 4 here in Indiana,”

“I’ll bring you guys out here, put you guys up, get you guys seats to the game. The Pacers, everybody in our organization wants to make sure you’re taken care of, all of the team is excited to meet you.”

When Indiana defeated the Knicks at the Garden in Game 7 of the conference playoffs last season, Perez, who has the Pacers emblem tattooed close to his wrist, was present.

After defeating the reigning champion Boston Celtics in six games on Friday, the Knicks moved to their first conference finals in 25 years. Outside the Garden, a crowd of Knicks supporters has gathered on 7th Avenue to commemorate every postseason triumph.
