Tyreek Hill Causes Controversy With His Message to the Dolphins

Tyreek Hill can’t keep himself out of the news for long. The Miami Dolphins are nearing a pivotal point in their wild 2024 NFL season as they attempt to maintain their hopes of making the playoffs. Miami is still in the running for the AFC’s last Wild Card slot going into Week 17, despite having a miserable 2–6 start to the season.

They no longer have complete control over their destiny, though, and they need to achieve a number of outcomes to guarantee postseason involvement.

The Bengals’ victory keeps the Tyreek Hill and Dolphins’ hopes alive

The Denver Broncos, who had the final Wild Card spot, were two games ahead of the Dolphins going into the weekend. Miami’s hopes might have been dashed before they even entered the field on Sunday if the Broncos had defeated the Bengals on Saturday night.

Luckily for the Dolphins, Miami’s hopes of making the playoffs were preserved when the Bengals produced a thrilling 30-24 overtime triumph. The Dolphins’ top wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, rallied his squad right away following the Bengals’ victory.

He posted a straightforward message on social media: “Let’s take care of business guys.” Hill had publicly supported Cincinnati earlier in the day by posting the Bengals’ iconic “#WHODEY” cry.

Over the next two weeks, some things need to happen for the Dolphins to secure the final AFC playoff position. Miami’s first priority is to defeat the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns in their final games. They will also require assistance from other teams:

  1. The Kansas City Chiefs must defeat the Broncos.
  2. Against the Jacksonville Jaguars or the New York Giants, the Indianapolis Colts must lose at least one of their final two games.

To make things more difficult, Miami might have to win at least one game without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s matchup with Cleveland.

Although the goal of Hill’s inspirational speech to his teammates was to inspire the team, his open endorsement of the Bengals caused controversy among Bengals supporters. While some criticized the optics of publicly supporting another team, others praised his openness and team-first approach.
