Travis Scott, Future, & SZA Sued for Copyright Infringement Over Hit Song ‘Telekinesis’

Travis Scott, Future, and SZA may have teleported into the Billboard Hot 100’s top 40 with their group effort ‘Telekinesis,’ but a recently filed lawsuit could see the hitmaking trio moving from the charts to the courtroom in defense of the 2023 ‘Utopia‘ hit.

Victory Boyd, a Roc Nation singer-songwriter, filed suit against Scott, SZA, and Future in a New York federal court on Wednesday (January 8) with claims ‘Telekinesis’ sounds like it swiped aspects of her tune ‘Like the Way It Sounds‘ without permission.

In fact, she says the hook “directly copies” lyrics from ‘Sounds.’

According to Boyd, she shared the song with Kanye West in 2019 and then he played the track for Scott who then played it for SZA and Future.  West is not a named defendant.

To further corroborate her claim, Victory revealed she is listed as one of the song’s composers on Spotify and – as a result – was recently offered an 8% stake in the song.

That’s not enough for Boyd, however, as she is asking that all defendants named in the suit “recall and destroy” their copies of music that stemmed from her original work in conjunction with rendering a payment in an “amount to be determined at trial in actual damages and profits, plus interest.”

What’s more, she’s seeking “a full and complete accounting of all profits obtained from their marketing, distribution, and national television broadcasting” of ‘Telekinesis.’”
At writing, the defendants have not spoken publicly about the matter.
