Due to Stephen Curry‘s absence, the Golden State Warriors‘ offensive inefficiencies have been glaringly apparent in their Western Conference semifinal clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Curry has not played since suffering a hamstring pain in Game 1 and leaving the game in the second quarter. Golden State’s play without him has prompted serious concerns, despite the cautious optimism that he might make a comeback if the series goes to a Game 6.
Steve Kerr now confronts a difficult task in trying to salvage the Warriors’ season after the team’s offensive decline has been glaring. Prior to his injury, Curry had been the Warriors’ leading scorer in the postseason, averaging 22.6 points per game.
The offensive system has struggled without him. Golden State has only mustered an offensive rating of 100.0 across Games 2 and 3, both of which were victories for the Timberwolves. This is a significant drop from their 111.7 rating in the first-round series against the Houston Rockets.
With a 104.2 offensive rating in Game 1, the team’s offensive effectiveness was already declining before Curry left. The offensive rhythm has completely vanished since he left.
Ball movement deteriorates, turnovers increase, and defense fails. Golden State has trouble with more than just scoring. Without Curry leading the attack, they have struggled with ball possession and passing fluency.
