The Truth About Jimmy Butler’s Paternity Dispute

Trade speculations are just one aspect of Jimmy Butler’s off-court drama. Court records seen by The Post reveal that the Heat star and his ex-wife, Kaitlin Nowak, are engaged in a paternity dispute over their three children: Rylee, age five; Brayan, age two; and Kian, age one.

According to the DailyMail, Butler, 35, who is now on the Miami trading block, filed a court action in November 2023 asking for relief from a previous custody agreement in which they established joint custody and decided that Butler would pay Nowak $10,000 per month for a nanny on a “temporary basis.”

Butler claims in the recently filed motion that their time-sharing arrangement has altered and that a nanny is not necessary, particularly since Brayan is enrolled in preschool or daycare and Rylee will be starting school later this year.

Butler claims that Nowak is “unemployed and refuses to seek employment,” and that he gives her $55,000 in child support each month.

Despite a previous mediation, according to the filings, Nowak maintains that Butler pays for a nanny “on top of the tremendous amount of child support he is paying.”

According to the motion: “If Mother is claiming that she cannot afford a nanny despite the child support she receives (which exceeds even the maximum that these children possibly could need), Father is entitled to an accounting of Mother’s use of the funds and, potentially, for the appointment of a guardian ad litem to oversee the expenditures,’

After agreeing to a four-year contract deal, Butler will make $49 million this year, or $184 million in 2021.

What does Jimmy Butler’s motion accuse his wife of?

Their 2023 contract was sealed and kept secret.

“Child support is intended for the benefit of the children and only the children,” said Brian Karpf, Butler’s attorney, in a statement to The Daily Mail. Here, there is no rationale for further costs.

Butler is “a good dad” who “remains committed to the care and wellbeing of his children,” Karpf continued. Paul Leinoff, Nowak’s lawyer, stated that his client will reply to Butler’s request in a separate court document.

According to reports, Butler and Nowak began dating in 2019, but they never made their relationship public. The pair were never married, according to the court documents.

Butler, who keeps his personal life private, has not yet spoken anything about the matter.
