While they aren’t the first siblings to potentially compete in the NBA and WNBA, TJ and now Megan McConnell could soon join a very select group. The Phoenix Mercury officially signed Megan on Tuesday after she was invited to their training camp as an undrafted free agent.
Like her brother, who signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2015, Megan had to prove herself during training camp. Initially not included on the roster, she was signed by the Mercury on Tuesday, making her the third player in Duquesne history to secure a WNBA contract.
There’s a possibility for some historic moments. It is believed the McConnells, hailing from Chartiers Valley High School, would be the first siblings to play on the same evening if Megan participates on Thursday as Phoenix takes on Golden State while TJ plays in Game 1 of the NBA Finals for Indiana against Oklahoma City.
Megan McConnell was recognized as the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and also named to the First Team All-Conference. She concluded her career as Duquesne’s second all-time leading scorer (1,795 points) and rebounder (1,079) and holds the records for the most triple-doubles (4), steals (370), and assists (660).
