Despite spending a lot of money on Deshaun Watson in 2022, the Cleveland Browns are still dealing with uncertainty at quarterback, which means there will be a four-way competition for the job, with Shedeur Sanders in the mix.
The goal of Watson’s five-year, $230 million contract was to secure the team’s top spot in football. Instead, he has hardly played a snap and is once again out due to injury as the 2025 offseason progresses.
With four quarterbacks competing for the 29-year-old’s spot—Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel—the head coach of the Browns says no decision is set in stone and that everyone has a chance.
“I told ESPN Cleveland Radio,” Stefanski said.
“We’re not even there yet,” “For us, we’re really worried about OTA, number one. And then we’re worried about Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of next week.
“If you’re on our roster, you’re competing for a role… We don’t have to set a roster until late August, we don’t have to set a depth.
“We have to get the football team ready to play, certainly, but you’re competing for a role in what you do. I would hope every player on our team, quarterback or otherwise, is competing for a role.”
The strategy, however, runs counter to recent remarks made by Charles Woodson, one of the team’s owners, who made it apparent that he preferred the seasoned quarterback Flacco.
