Shedeur Sanders Gets Honest About Deion Sanders’s Influence

In addition to navigating the spotlight of his success, former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, one of the top prospects for the 2018 NFL Draft, is embracing it. Shedeur has had to deal with expectations and criticism that might easily eclipse his talent because his father, Deion Sanders, serves as both a coach and mentor. Rather, he views his father’s participation as a significant benefit.

In response to detractors who doubt Deion’s contribution to his career, Shedeur revealed: “They say it like it’s a bad thing, but what parent wouldn’t want the best for their kid?” 

He went on, unapologetically confident: “I’m not ducking, I ain’t hiding I’m here to answer everything.”

NFL scouts and elite teams have taken notice of Shedeur’s remarkable journey. The Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants—all of whom own the top three picks in this year’s draft—urged Shedeur to refrain from on-field exercises during the Shrine Bowl.

These organizations asked Sanders not to practice in order to preserve his health and draft value, a source told Yahoo Sports. During Friday’s discussions, Shedeur instead concentrated on fortifying his ties with these teams, so solidifying his position as a top quarterback prospect.

Although Shedeur has undoubtedly forged his own way, Deion Sanders’ influence cannot be denied.
