Rich Rodriguez : West Virginia Athletes Will No Longer Be Allowed to Dance on TikTok

West Virginia football coach Rich Rodriguez has reportedly forbidden his team from dancing on TikTok, which is a very 2025 unforced error. Rodriguez said he would let his players use the well-known social media app, but he wouldn’t let them dance to it, according to the Associated Press.

Rodriguez told the AP: “They’re going to be on it, so I’m not banning them from it,”

“I’m just banning them from dancing on it. It’s like, look, we try to have a hard edge or whatever, and you’re in there in your tights dancing on TikTok, ain’t quite the image of our program that I want.”

Is Rich Rodriguez right in banning TikTok?

Having such a harsh and useless criterion for his players to meet isn’t exactly helping Rodriguez land his second head coaching position at West Virginia. They adore dancing on TikTok, but I’m not sure if Rich Rod has ever met any 2020s college students.

If your football players are using TikTok to do exactly what every other child their age is doing, it says nothing about them. People, what are we even doing here? What on earth would motivate someone to impose this rule on a collegiate football team? Is Rodriguez merely attempting to make things more difficult for himself and his group?

Rodriguez may have some trouble recruiting from this generation of TikTok aficionados if one of the prerequisites for playing for the Mountaineers is not dancing on the platform.

This seems like an absurdly foolish obstacle. I wonder what Rich is up to. In this generation, this doesn’t work like it did in the past.
