You might have heard about this wild story involving Jack Callis, a Ravens fan. He got into some major trouble after attacking fans of the opposing team, the Commanders. But get this – he ended up getting a lighter sentence after pleading guilty to three counts of second-degree.
But wait, before he gets the lenient sentence, he has to meet some conditions, or else he’s going to jail for ten years.
Jack Callis, a 24-year-old from Sarasota, Florida, was sentenced to 10 years with all suspended but the 105 days he’s already served in jail. Furthermore, he faces five years of probation on top 100 hours of community service. He’s also been ordered to pay $4,660 in restitution and complete both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs for substance abuse, according to The Baltimore Banner.
By meeting those conditions, Callis can reduce five years of probation to just three.
‘You’ve embarrassed us,’ Baltimore Circuit Judge Charles H. Dorsey III said Monday. ‘We love the Ravens.’
Video of the unprovoked attack went viral in October, showing Callis celebrating Baltimore’s win over their beltway rivals by running up to two unidentified men in Commanders replica jerseys. He punched one to the ground before throwing the other against a brick wall.
An arrest warrant was promptly issued for Callis. He was initially charged with first-degree aggravated assault and three counts of second-degree assault.
The video ends with Callis flexing for the camera in a Lamar Jackson replica jersey and telling the camera: ‘I don’t lose.’
He has since lost his job.
Callis, an insurance salesman from the Beltway area, was dismissed by the firm of Maury, Donnelly & Parr after footage of the incident went viral on Monday.
‘MDP has a zero-tolerance policy for violence and aggressive behavior,’ a company spokeswoman told DailyMail.com in an email. ‘As a result of the conduct displayed in the video, the individual has been terminated.’
Police say the video was recorded night along the 1000 block of South Charles Street, which is about a 10-minute walk from Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium.
Now, I’m not saying that Jack shouldn’t face any consequences for his actions. Attacking people is never okay, no matter how passionate you are about your team. But it’s interesting to see how pleading guilty and meeting some conditions worked in his favor. Regardless, he will still spend time in jail for his crimes.
