Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has formally decided to enter the 2025 NFL Draft, according to an NFL Rookie Watch article. Ewers will forgo another year of college eligibility and a possible transfer to join the professional ranks after a wild junior season.
The 2024 season for Ewers was uneventful. Inconsistencies plagued his performance, even though he guided the Longhorns to a 13-3 record and a semifinal participation in the College Football Playoffs (CFP).
His 12 interceptions and failure to respond in crucial games, like the SEC Championship defeat to Georgia, raised doubts about his NFL readiness despite his 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns as a quarterback.
Ewers’ pocket awareness and decision-making were criticized in pivotal games. Both fans and commentators criticized him for his troubles against top defenses, which included a season-high six sacks and two interceptions in the SEC championship game. With demands for the rookie to replace him as Texas’ starter, backup Arch Manning’s ascent only increased the level of scrutiny.
Scouts for the NFL disagree over Quinn Ewers’ potential
Ewers is still a fascinating player in spite of his lackluster final season. He has a foundation to grow upon thanks to his arm power, moments of genius, and expertise in high-pressure games. He presently has a poor draft status, though, as many analysts predict that he will be selected in the late second round or later. Todd McShay, an NFL Draft analyst:
“When I talk to NFL teams … landslide, [they say Quinn Ewers] needs to grad transfer. He has talent but needs refinement, and another college season could have done wonders,”
Ewers’ choice to forgo up transfer opportunities—possibly to schools like Ohio State, Alabama, or Notre Dame—has generated more discussion. According to reports, he declined a lucrative $6 million NIL offer from an unidentified collegiate institution in favor of trying his luck in the NFL.
Ewers will now have to prove himself in workouts before to the draft. His ability to wow evaluators with his physical prowess, football IQ, and capacity to handle the demands of the professional game will determine his draft projection.
