‘Party in the USA,’ the chart-topping 2009 megahit from Miley Cyrus, has unexpectedly gone from being a party-girl Pop classic to an American anthem as evidenced by a recent Independence Day-fueled sales resurgence.
Already the highest-certified female song in U.S. history (a title shared with Mariah Carey‘s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ and Katy Perry‘s ‘Firework‘), ‘Party’ has become a firework of its own – a ‘must-hear’ at July 4th celebrations across the USA.
So much so, the Dr. Luke-produced song – even in 2023 – racked up a whopping 8 million U.S.-based streams, 5.2 million radio airplay audience impressions, and 6,000 downloads sold during the week of the holiday. For context, the nearly 14-year-old hit was the second best-selling female song (pure sales) behind the massive Olivia Rodrigo comeback single, ‘Vampire,’ over the sales tracking period of July 2 – July 7.
With the aforementioned handsome stats attached, ‘Party’ pounced to #50 on the refreshed Hot 100 in its overall 29th week of charting – extending its reign as Miley’s second longest-running tune on the hitlist (eclipsed only by the 32-week run of 2013’s ‘Wrecking Ball‘). At the height of its popularity, ‘Party’ peaked at #2.
Like Carey’s annual yuletide domination with ‘All I Want for Christmas,’ some industry analysts believe ‘Party’ will become a perennial staple for patriotic Americans for years to come and will reappear on the hitlist every July.
