Michael Wilbon Blasts LeBron James for Media Manipulation

LeBron James is in the news for all the wrong reasons this week. Within the NBA community, there is a lot of discussion about who will be the “Face of the League.” Anthony Edwards recently declared that he does not see himself as the league’s future face. In a recent interview, LeBron James made a controversial statement that fueled the debate.

James proposed that the current situation of NBA media is the reason why young players are reluctant to take on this representational position. NBA commentators responded negatively to this statement, with many criticizing James for his position. Notably, Michael Wilbon of ESPN noted that the Lakers star appeared to be manipulating the conversation around NBA media.

Wibon said: “When you put on a crown on your head theres criticism that comes with that, if he doesnt like the comparisons to MJ too damn bad. Were not on your payroll were not there just to praise YOU.”

James’ comments created a lot of buzz among NBA players. LeBron’s position was quickly challenged by sports pundit Stephen A. Smith, who claimed that the media’s role is to assess and comment on the game. Interestingly, James answered right away. He used his X account to elaborate on his position.
