Kevin Durant Trade Rumors Heat Up Before the 2025 NBA Draft

Throughout the 2024–25 NBA season, Kevin Durant worked extremely hard to try to guide the Phoenix Suns to a desired postseason berth. Regretfully, the team’s effort fell short of expectations, finishing the regular season with a dismal 36-46 record and in 11th place. Consequently, there began to be speculation about a possible Durant trade.

Durant trade talks are heating up, and a number of NBA analysts are putting forward interesting scenarios. As these events play out, there is increasing conjecture regarding Durant’s possible exit, particularly in light of the 2025 NBA Draft. Bill Simmons recently made a startling statement about a possible Durant trade.

On “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” Simmons stated:

“I wouldn’t be surprised if KD to the Spurs is done already and they just haven’t announced it. Basically, they’ve agreed on specifics, just announce it on the week of the draft. This goes back to the Giannis thing. I think they trade for KD because it just costs less. They’ll be able to be real competitive and maybe go a couple of rounds in the playoffs, but they’re also going to keep the No. 2 pick and do it that way, which is my prediction,”

According to Simmons, there may already be a deal in place for Durant to join the San Antonio Spurs. He implies that the Spurs and Suns are holding off on making an official public announcement about the agreement till the ideal time.
