Fresh from his GRAMMY award winning weekend, Kendrick Lamar addresses a lot of things at the Super Bowl press conference today (February 6) from preparation for the Halftime Show to all the success and recognition he’s been receiving lately.

But most notably, he addressed the Drake beef.

In his interview with Ebro and Nadeska Alexis, the ‘Not Like Us’ rapper states that the whole beef with Drake was for the culture and seeing Rap as a sport:

“My intent from day one was to keep the nature of it as a sport. I don’t care how motherf*ckers look at it as far as like a collaborative effort, that’s cool too but I love when artists grit their teeth. I still watch battle raps, Smack URL, Murda Mook, Lux, Tay Roc, my bro Daylyt, this always been the core definition of who I am.”

Lamar continues by saying that a lot of people were pushing Rap to the back, and didn’t see the bite and grit anymore. So, he takes that into consideration with his music.

The Compton native admits that he didn’t surprise himself in his battle with Drake because he’s always had those capabilities and that personality:

“This has just been a revolving door of what I’ve been doing in Carson Studios, or the homie garage, or my brothers at TDE, or just anybody around the city of Compton and in L.A.. It’s just magnified to a level where I’ve progressed it and did enough hours to know… okay I know where to place it now… I know how to make it connect it with people.”

The MC is definitely excited for the upcoming Halftime performance and gave a hint to look forward to storytelling in his performance.
