Jason Derulo Responds to “Deeply Offensive” Sexual Harassment Lawsuit: “These Claims are False & Hurtful”

‘Whatcha Say’ hitmaker Jason Derulo had a lot to say in response to recent headline-grabbing news that he sexually harassed and threatened an aspiring Pop star in exchange for a record deal.

In details of a shocking lawsuit that hit the Web earlier this week, songstress Emaza Gibson claims Derulo reached out to her with the promise of a recording contract – a pact that allegedly came with a quid pro quo agreement that included unsolicited sexual invitations, aggressive behavior, and – ultimately – threats that implied she would have to have sex with him to advance her career dreams.

“I’m at this point in my life right now, it’s very heartbreaking,” Gibson said in an interview Wednesday (October 4) with NBC News. “I have anxiety; I’m traumatized. I’ve dealt with inhumane work [and] I’m at this point where I’m back to zero and I have nothing.”

Just a day after Emaza’s accusations dominated news, Derulo quickly took to social media to refute them. Hop inside to see what he said.

Taking to Instagram early Friday morning (October 6), Jason addressed the allegations head on.

“I wouldn’t normally comment but these claims are completely false and hurtful,” he said to his 29.4 million followers on the platform. “I stand against all forms of harassment and I remain supportive of anybody following their dreams. I’ve always strived to live my life in a positively impactful way, and that’s why I sit here before you deeply offended, by these defamatory claims. God bless.”

His statement comes after the Gibson the lawsuit, filed Thursday (October 5) in Los Angeles County Superior Court, which saw Gibson allege Derulo’s promise to advance her singing career turned cold after she rejected his sexual advances, multiple invitations to drink alcohol and participate in “goat skin and fish scales” demonic rituals, and more.

“[Jason Derulo] not only broke promises and breached contracts, but his threats of physical harm and unconscionable sexual advances toward this young woman who is just trying to break into the industry were outrageous and illegal,” said Ron Zambrano, the attorney representing Gibson.

Gibson’s lawsuit not only names Derulo but also his imprint (Future History) and Atlantic Records of breach of contract, a failure to remedy workplace harassment, violation of California’s civil rights act, sexual harassment, and retaliation.

To remedy, the songstress seeks unpaid wages, deferred compensation, loss of earnings, and damages for emotional distress.
