Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins Find a Unique Way to Confirm Contract Extensions

Late Sunday night, the Cincinnati Bengals allegedly reached a significant contract extension agreement with Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, two wide receivers. Chase and Higgins came up with an inventive method to verify the report of the contract agreements within minutes after the pacts were made public.

The two Bengals receivers shared the same tweet—a single handshake emoji—on their individual X accounts.

Chase did the same two minutes after Higgins’s post.

Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are crucial to Bengals future

Chase and Higgins responded to the news in unison, much as they had in their pursuit of new contracts.

With an average yearly compensation of slightly more than $40 million, Chase, who has been vying for a new deal since missing training camp this past summer in preparation for the 2024 season, is officially the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history. That is higher than the record set by defensive end Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns earlier in March.

Higgins, meanwhile, had voiced his disapproval of the Bengals’ choice after being franchise-tagged for the second straight season. Higgins would play out the ’25 season on the tag if Cincinnati couldn’t agree on a long-term contract with him before the July 15 deadline. By doing this, the Bengals have officially secured contracts for quarterback Joe Burrow’s two best targets for the upcoming season (Higgins until 2028 and Chase until 2029).
