Ja Morant‘s step-back shot in the lane as time ran out gave his Memphis Grizzlies a 110-108 victory Thursday night, leaving Miami Heat fans unhappy. The basket ended a four-game Memphis losing run and completed a 30-point performance for Morant.
When he finally got the switch he desired, he worked on Miami rookie big man Kel’el Ware. A nice step-back jumper rattled around the rim and in after Morant moved into the lane and separated Ware. Game of ball.
Ja Morant’s statement on Kel’el Ware guarding him
After the victory, when asked what he observed on the last possession, Morant responded with a self-assured, slightly spicy comment. During the TNT broadcast, Morant stated: “A pigeon guarding me, go get a bucket and win the game.”
Taylor Rooks of TNT had to follow up to find out what Miami had done to connect with Morant because the response seemed a little personal:
“The crowd get to booing me. They just woke me up for the second half and I’m pretty sure they ain’t happy going home now,”

However, Ware was unimpressed, stating after the game that he believed Morant “got the lucky shot.” Tee, Morant’s father, saw his son’s game-winning and impressive effort from the court.
