Lauryn Hill may have developed quite the reputation for being late to everything, but she certainly found time to clock the shocking lawsuit rendered by her Fugees bandmate Pras after news broke on Tuesday (October 1) that he is suing her for fraud and breach of contract.
As previously reported, details around the lawsuit lifted by Pras (born Prakazrel Samuel Michel) saw him slam Hill for “narcissistic tendencies” that not only forewent multi-million dollar opportunities for the group (allegedly) but also breach a contract when their Fugees reunion tour was canceled.
Once news of the suit hit her desk, Lauryn quickly took to her official Instagram handle to clap back.
“I’ve been silent and pushing through because I understood that Pras was under duress because of his legal battles and that this was perhaps affecting his judgement, state of mind, and character,” she began her lengthy statement before sharing a series of “facts” to check aspects of his lawsuit. “This baseless lawsuit by Pras is full of false claims and unwarranted attacks. It notably omits that he was advanced overpayment for the last tour and has failed to repay substantial loans extended by myself as an act of goodwill.”
Elsewhere in the statement to her 1.3 million followers on the platform, Hill shared she only incorporated the Fugees in the tour to financially assist Pras with his legal troubles – even alleging she and fellow bandmate Wyclef Jean deferred their full advances to ensure Michel was adequately compensated for his needs.
According to her, Michel’s failure to pay back said advance actually puts him in breach of contract – not her.
All-in-all, Hill concluded that there are no hard feelings.
“Despite his attacks, I am still compassionate and hope things work out for him,” she shared.
