Vice President Kamala Harris has confirmed she is willing to debate former President Donald Trump again after accepting an invitation from CNN to use their platform as the battleground.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Saturday afternoon (September 21), Harris issued a direct challenge to Trump to do the same.
“I will gladly accept a second presidential debate on October 23,” she posted to her 21.1 million followers on the platform. “I hope Donald Trump will join me.”
The social media post echoed a statement released by her team earlier in the day.
“Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share a stage with Donald Trump,” campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement to the press. “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate.”
At the time of this report, Trump’s camp has not issued a formal acceptance or declination of the invitation.
If his previous takes on the matter are to judge by, however, he’s undecided.
Shortly after the first debate against Harris (September 11), he took to social media to announce he would not participate in any future debates with the VP.
He seemingly had a change of heart last week.
“Maybe if I got in the right mood,” he told reporters during a stop in California.
If Trump accepts it’s said the next debate will mirror the format of the previous with each candidate fielding 90 minutes of questioning from moderators with no live audience.
“Both Vice President Harris and former President Trump received an invitation to participate in a CNN debate this fall as we believe the American people would benefit from a second debate between the two candidates for President of the United States,” reps from CNN relayed. “We look forward to receiving a response from both campaigns so the American public can hear more from these candidates as they make their final decision.”
