Flo Milli might be riding off the success of her breakout smash ‘Never Lose Me,’ but the Alabama-bred rapper is now facing some serious legal heat.

According to new court documents, Flo is being sued for copyright infringement over the very track that catapulted her into the mainstream. The suit claims she lifted a beat that was already exclusively licensed to another artist named Shamar Deal, who now wants $1 million in damages.

But Flo isn’t the only name caught in the crossfire. Detroit Rap duo Babyface Ray and 42 Dugg, whose song ‘Ron Artest’ came out in early 2023, are also in the firing line.

Their track allegedly sampled the original instrumental, a beat called ‘Youu’ produced by Gerreaux Katana, which Deal says he locked down in a 10-year exclusive agreement back in 2019.

Deal’s argument? The ‘Never Lose Me’ sampled a sample, all without his say so, and that the song’s viral takeover happened on a beat that legally still belonged to him. The track is currently peaking at No. 15 on Billboard Hot 100 and racking up over 947 million streams globally.

The lawsuit also ropes in EMPIRE and Sony Music, who distributed the track, accusing the labels of pushing the song without clearing the proper rights.

Flo is yet to weigh in.
