Emmitt Smith Blasts Cowboys for Not Making It to the Super Bowl in the Previous 30 Years

Emmitt Smith, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is “sick” of seeing his Dallas Cowboys miss out on a Super Bowl. The annoyance is only increased by the Philadelphia Eagles winning two Super Bowls, including the one in February.

Smith stated to 94WIP Sports Radio: “I’m sick of it,”

“We have allowed others to nitpick at the star and make fun of the star, and that’s what happens. Now, all of a sudden, over the last 20 years, [Eagles] win two Super Bowls, and they think they’re the best thing on the planet. And everywhere I go, I hear ‘Go Birds.’ 

“I’m sick of hearing ‘Go Birds.’ I’m always asking, ‘Where are you going?’ You still got a long way to go to get to us.”

Smith was discussing Dallas’ five Super Bowl victories, three of which were won in 1993, 1994, and 1996 when he was the head coach of the Cowboys’ backfield.

Emmitt Smith opens up about Eagles fans taunting him

The Eagles only have two titles, but the Cowboys have more. However, those two occurred within the previous seven years. The Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in February after winning their first game of 2018.

If the Eagles fill a few defensive gaps, they should have another fantastic season. A.J. Brown, Jalen Hurts, and Saquon Barkley front a strong offensive effort. However, Smith believes that it used to be unimaginable to miss out on the NFC title, much less the Super Bowl, for thirty years.

Regarding Eagles supporters making fun of him for the Cowboys’ drought, he said: “That part bugs me,” 

 “It bugs me because in my heart I truly believe our organization should be contending for an NFC championship and even a Super Bowl at least once or twice every decade because every team recycles every decade. 

“For us not to be there over the last 30 years is a crying shame.”

The Cowboys had three consecutive 12-5 seasons from 2021–2023 and appeared to be a squad set to make a postseason run. However, the San Francisco 49ers defeated them in the 2022 divisional round, while Dak Prescott & Co. lost two wild-card games in 2021 and 2023.

Since winning the championship in 1996, the Cowboys have not advanced past the divisional round.
