The ESPN trio of Mike Breen, Doris Burke, and Richard Jefferson is poised to cover the 2025 NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers, beginning on Thursday, June 5.

As reported by Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, it could potentially be their last Finals together as a group.

In his column about ESPN’s future strategies, Marchand indicated that while the network “plans to re-sign” Jefferson—who has taken over for current Lakers coach JJ Redick—Burke’s future with the premier team is somewhat up in the air.

Marchand wrote:  “Burke’s spot is not guaranteed for next season …”. “While Breen, the Basketball Hall of Famer under a long-term deal, is not going anywhere, ESPN will evaluate its entire roster.”

“ESPN executives will debate what is next, with one discussion likely centering around if they feel Burke is better on a two-person team as opposed to the three-person team,”

Burke has been part of ESPN since 1991. In 2023, she became the head analyst for their NBA broadcast team following the layoffs of Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, marking her as the first woman to hold the position of a TV analyst for a major men’s championship in American sports.
