Heat President Receives a Subliminal Message From Jimmy Butler

Star Jimmy Butler appeared to make a sly shot at Miami Heat president Pat Riley following a training session on Tuesday, the 31st. Butler hinted at his dissatisfaction by avoiding inquiries about his future with the franchise, even though he didn’t specifically ask for a trade. In addition, Butler believes Riley has been following him around somehow.

Butler said: “No matter what I do, someone is always commenting. But I’ve been doing what I was asked. I’ll keep my mouth shut and play basketball,”

The forward made it apparent that he had received Riley’s message in May. The Heat president then voiced his disapproval of Butler’s remark that, had he been healthy, the Celtics and Knicks would have advanced to the postseason at home. In response, Riley told him to “shut up and play basketball.”

Conflicts with the president make things more difficult, even though Jimmy Butler wanted a maximum contract with the Heat. Shams Charania of ESPN claims that Butler would rather be traded. The Miami team did, however, just last week post on social media that the player would not be departing.

Butler concluded: “Who knows (if I will stay in Miami)? I don’t know, but right now I am here. So, I will compete and I will win. That’s all I can say. There’s a lot being said, but none of it bothers me. Let people think and then you can ask me about it. But it’s nice to talk about it,” 

Butler’s remarks in the interview are not expected to stop trade rumors, according to Sun Sentinel reporter Ira Winderman. According to Winderman, Riley and Butler’s relationship is solely professional, which has undergone a significant shift since May. Until then, the two talked for a long time, and Riley often invited him into his office.

But that hasn’t been the case this season. Rumors persist while Butler stays away from the president.
