Kylie Minogue’s ‘Tension’
First-Week Sales (SPS): 24,500 units
Billboard 200 Debut: #21
Few can say they’re having a better year than Kylie.
As if boasting yet another UK #1 smash with her latest album, ‘Tension,’ wasn’t enough to boast, the September 22-released project – led by the gargantuan ‘Padam Padam‘ – is seeing its success narrative extended to American shores.
Review of the refreshed Billboard 200 sees the 11-track project planted at #21 thanks to total sales of 24,500 equivalent album units in the U.S.
That figure – which is a combination of the performance of the LP’s 2 deluxe editions as well as 15 physical formats (cassettes, vinyl, CDs) and digital versions – marks the biggest week she’s landed Stateside in nearly 20 years following 2004’s ‘Body Language‘ opening to the tune of 43,500 sold.
Of the 24,500 units shifted, nearly 19,500 of those were pure (digital and physical) – making it the best-selling new album of the week (among all artists). The feat sees her outpace the pure sales of new projects like Doja Cat’s ‘Scarlet,’ Zach Bryan‘s ‘Boys of Faith,’ and Lil Tecca‘s ‘TEC‘ as well as the week’s #1 album Rod Wave‘s ‘Nostalgia.’
The #21 opening of ‘Tension’ not only marks Minogue’s highest Billboard 200 placement since ‘Aprodite‘ cracked the top 20 in 2020, but it’s her overall fifth top 40 hit on the hitlist following 2002’s ‘Fever‘ (#3 peak), 2010’s ‘Aphrodite‘ (#19 peak), 2014’s ‘Kiss Me Once‘ (#31 peak), and 2020’s ‘Disco‘ (#26 peak).
