Brandon Braxton, a Former Duke Football Player, Admits Killing His High School Friend Whitney Hurd

Assistant District Attorney Madison Gladwell claims that former Duke University football player Brandon Braxton confessed to Whitney Hurd’s murder.

News agencies report that a former football player for Duke University is charged with murder in the passing of a realtor in North Carolina.

According to Mecklenburg County jail records, Brandon Braxton, 33, was taken into custody on Thursday, March 20, and charged with first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is being held without bond at a jail.

According to court documents acquired by PEOPLE, realtor Whitney Hurd was discovered dead in her Charlotte, North Carolina, home on July 14, 2024, which led to the former football player’s arrest.

According to an autopsy report, the 32-year-old died from “multiple stab wounds,” and her cause of death was determined to be homicide.

During Braxton’s initial court appearance on Friday, March 21, Assistant District Attorney Madison Gladwell claimed that when talking to detectives, Braxton confessed to Hurd’s murder, according to reports from The Charlotte Observer and WBTV-TV.

Based on an affidavit, investigators discovered that Braxton and Hurd had been friends in high school before they “lost touch” for “many years.” But when the former collegiate athlete began “showing up to her residence,” that changed.
