BO Jackson, Surrenders a $21 Million Judgment in an Extortion Case

Bo Jackson, a former NFL Pro Bowl player and MLB All-Star, is relinquishing his $21 million award in an extortion case involving his niece and nephew.

Jackson consented to the settlement of his civil extortion lawsuit against Thomas Lee Anderson and Erica M. Anderson, better known as Erica Anderson Ross, according to Rosie Manins of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

After two mediation sessions, Jackson and the Andersons came to a private agreement to settle the conflict, according to a court filing on Tuesday (via ESPN.com).

Jackson first received the $21 million award in February 2024 after he claimed in a lawsuit that Thomas and Erica were trying to extort him by posting threatening messages on social media, making false accusations against him in public, and disclosing personal information in public with the intention of upsetting him.

Along with the monetary penalty, Thomas and Erica were prohibited from having any direct or indirect contact with Jackson and were mandated to maintain a minimum of 500 yards between them.

Bo Jackson a certified legend of the game

According to ESPN, at Jackson and the Andersons’ request, Cobb County Superior Court Judge Jason D. Marbutt issued an order on Wednesday rescinding his February decision.

One of the greatest two-sport athletes in history is Jackson. After winning the Heisman Trophy and SEC Player of the Year at Auburn in 1985, he played in the NFL for four years, from 1987 to 1990, with the Los Angeles Raiders before dislocating his hip in a January 1991 playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jackson played in Major League Baseball for eight years, from 1986 to 1994, in addition to his football career. While playing with the Kansas City Royals in 1989, he was selected to the All-Star team and placed tenth in the AL MVP vote.

Jackson had 18 total touchdowns in 38 games and 3,134 yards from scrimmage by the end of his NFL career. He played for three different teams in 694 MLB games, hitting.250/.309/.474 with 141 home runs.
