‘Barbershop’ is returning to screens – this time as a Prime Video TV with Jermaine Fowler as the lead.

The series follows Travis ‘Trav’ Porter (Fowler), a young man trying to fill the shoes of his grandfather, a legendary barber at the iconic Calvin’s Barbershop in Chicago. It seems like while this is a new adaptation of the movie franchise, it’ll still have the same vibrant energy.

Vernon Sanders, Amazon MGM Studios’ head of television, is just as excited about bringing this series to Prime Video. He says:

“We are thrilled to announce a new series based on the hilarious and innovative world of Barbershop for our global Prime Video customers. The television adaptation of this iconic film franchise is in excellent hands.” 

The ‘Barbershop’ movie franchise first hit the big screen in 2002 with Ice Cube playing Calvin. Then two sequels followed suit: ‘Barbershop 2: Back in Business’ and ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut.’

In 2005, it first graced the TV screens as Showtime aired a short-lived sitcom spin-off starring Omar Gooding as Calvin. It only lasted for one season.

‘Barbershop’ is one of several revivals on Prime Video. Including others like ‘Legally Blonde’ prequel titled ‘Elle’, a ‘Carrie’ reboot, and a ‘Tomb Raider’ drama.
