Austin Reaves Details LeBron James’ Injuries

LeBron James is a problem. This time it’s his absence which is a concern. The Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers’ longstanding rivals, defeated them in more ways than one on Saturday. After the 111-101 loss, the Lakers’ eight-game winning streak ended, and LeBron James sustained a groin injury that will affect Los Angeles’ short-term situation.

The groin injury James sustained during a 2018 Christmas Day game appears to be less severe than this one; the 40-year-old missed a month because of it. James will have to miss some time due to this injury, though, and the Lakers have some difficult games left as they strive to secure the #2 seed in the Western Conference.

Austin Reaves: “next man up” is the mindset that the Lakers have adopted

In James’ absence, which may last up to two weeks and include games against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets, recent NBA champions, Lakers guards Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves will need to step up. However, Reaves informed reporters that the Lakers will come together in the wake of James’ loss and work to resume their winning ways.

Reaves stated: “We’ve had many situations where a player deals with some type of injury or a trade or whatever it is, and we’ve done a really good job of bouncing back,” “And I don’t expect anything else. It’s a next-man-up mentality. Not one person’s gonna do what LeBron does for us. But you can do it as a collective. Hopefully, he gets back out on the court soon.”

With an average of 18.8 points per game on 44% shooting, Reaves, who just recovered from a calf strain, is having the best season of his four-year career. Doncic, who averaged 24.7 points in his 11 games and scored 34 points against the reigning champion Celtics, is also heating up at the perfect moment.
