After Being Hospitalized, Tank Dell Returns to Houston

According to head coach DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell will return to Houston on Sunday. After suffering a frightening leg injury during the Texans’ road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Dell was transported to a nearby hospital. About 12 miles from Arrowhead Stadium, Dell was sent to University of Kansas Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center, with his leg in an air cast.

Dell’s injury was the Texans‘ third serious injury of the day. Safety Jimmie Ward hurt his foot in the second quarter, and guard Shaq Mason hurt his knee in the first.

The Chiefs’ lead was reduced to 17-16 when Dell caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Tragic Moment when Tank Dell got injured

In the end zone, wide receiver Jared Wayne struck Dell’s lower leg. Players crowded around the wideout after Dell dislocated his kneecap, and some even started crying. It was a tragic moment.

On Saturday, Ryans stated: “It hurts to see him go down like that,”  “He was having a fantastic game.”

After the game, Stroud, one of the teammates who wept over Dell’s injury, talked about the terrifying experience. Stroud stated: “It’s not easy seeing your brother go down like that,”. “I’m just tore up. But at the same time, I got to be strong for him. For anything, whether it goes left or right, up or down, I have to praise my Lord and savior. It’s not easy, but after [the injury], I try to use it as motivation; it’s not easy to just let it go.”

“That’s my best friend. It’s not easy to move on and just keep playing. I tried to do the best that I could. My teammates helped me up, Joe [Mixon] helped me up and Dalton [Schultz]. I appreciate the guys just talking to me because I was going through it.”

Nico Collins, the receiver, also talked about how difficult it was to lose Dell to an injury. Nico said: “That s— hurts. It hurts. We know how much he meant to this team,”. “But losing one of your brothers, man, it hurts. Speedy recovery for my dog. Mentally, he’s going through it, but we have to keep stepping, keep climbing for him.”

Dell has three touchdowns and 667 receiving yards in 2024. Dell will not be able to play again until 2025 after tearing his Achilles tendon in the previous season.
