Will Quinn Ewers Play College Football Again or Go to the NFL?

After the Longhorns’ season ends, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers must make a crucial choice, whether it’s playing in the Cotton Bowl on Friday night or the national championship on January 20.

In an interview with ESPN’s Pete Thamel ahead of the Longhorns’ collegiate Football Playoff semifinal game against Ohio State on Friday, Ewers said “no” when asked whether he anticipates playing collegiate football the following season and “yes” when asked if he intends to play in the NFL.

Ewers is aiming to lead his team to a national championship as he wraps off his third season as the Longhorns’ quarterback.

The Longhorns will play Notre Dame in the national championship game if they triumph on Friday night. Ewers seems ready to begin getting ready for the NFL draft in April after their season concludes.

Ewers has guided Texas to an 11-2 record in 2024, with Georgia accounting for both of their losses. Ewers missed time early in the season due to an oblique injury, but he has passed for 3,189 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Ewers transferred to Texas in pursuit of more playing time after starting his collegiate career at Ohio State. He has passed for 8,845 yards, 66 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions in his three seasons at Texas.

After six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 rounds of the 2024 NFL draft, Ewers would join what is thought to be a rather weak quarterback class. Right now, Shedeur Sanders of Colorado, Cam Ward of Miami, and Jalen Milroe of Alabama are the standout players in the 2025 class.

Ewers will still have one year of eligibility if he decides to change his mind and play collegiate football again.
