Molly Qerim is baffled as to why hockey players get away with fighting on the ice, while players in other sports aren’t allowed to throw punches. It just doesn’t make sense to her. She can’t understand why hockey has this unwritten rule where fighting is seen as a normal part of the game.
In most other sports, if a player resorts to violence, they face severe consequences like suspensions, fines, and even criminal charges. But in hockey, it’s almost like they have a free pass to fight it out with their opponents. Molly wonders why the NHL doesn’t crack down on these brawls and hold players accountable for their actions.
She is wondering if hockey is the only sport where fighting is deemed acceptable. Are they trying to appease the fans with some kind of primal display of aggression? Or is there a deeper reason behind this phenomenon? Molly simply can’t wrap her head around it.
Molly on ‘First Take’ said, “It’s just interesting to me that certain sports, you’re allowed to fight. And other sports, it could never happen. Optics!”
Her comments come on the heels of the fights in the USA against Canada Nations Face-Off matchup. Do you think Molly Qerim’s concerns should be addressed by the authorities?
Regardless, Molly remains confused and wants some clarity on the matter. She hopes to see a change in the future, where players are protected and fighting is not glorified. Until then, she’ll continue to scratch her head and wonder why hockey players are allowed to fight while players in other sports can only dream of settling their differences with their fists.
