By directing attention to his forthcoming Vegas residency (which kicks off January 25), Nelly appeared to be trying to move on from the hoopla that ensued after he was announced as a leading performer at Trump’s inauguration on Monday (January 20).
Despite his best efforts, however, the ‘Hot in Herre‘ hitmaker remains a hot topic on social media with many divided on the short- and long-term impact the appearance will have on his career.
The latest to nab headlines for weighing in on the matter is fellow rapper Trick Daddy, who not only took to radio to give his two cents but surprised listeners as he praised the St. Louis emcee for taking the gig.

Taking to Miami’s 103.5 The Beat, Trick (born Maurice Young) opened up about Nelly’s situation by comparing it to the backlash Kodak Black got years ago for collaborating with embattled rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine after the latter was released from prison with a reputation for “being a snitch.”
“First of all, Nelly, congratulations for that $1.5 million you got for that show. I wish they’d give me $1.5 million,” Young said. “They got mad at Kodak for getting $1 million for Tekashi, [but if] Tekashi would’ve given me $250,000, I would’ve done a verse for him [as well].”
Elaborating on his “unpopular opinion,” Trick emphasized Nelly fans need to know the difference between “personal” and “business.”
“It’s not nothing personal when it’s your business,” Maurice relayed to listeners. “If my worst enemy booked me to do a concert, I’m going to do that concert.”

His sentiment echoes that of Nelly’s himself who justified his performance by claiming it “wasn’t for the money” or “politics,” but was instead “an honor” done out of “respect for the office.”
