The Chiefs and Andy Reid Part Ways With Cornell Powell

Over the past five years, including victories in the previous two seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs have celebrated three Super Bowl victories. The first three-peat in NFL history is something Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes hope to accomplish in 2024.

Additionally, many of the players that won rings in Kansas City left the team this season, even though the core that produced numerous titles is still there. However, not all of them had a significant impact on those titles.

Cornell Powell, a wide receiver, was so promptly cut from the Chiefs’ practice squad on Tuesday. Another player is apparently eligible to get a spot at Arrowhead since the 27-year-old is leaving.

Would Andy Reid regret getting rid of Cornell Powell ?

Chiefs Digest’s Matt Derrick claims that by cutting Powell, Kansas City frees up space on the scout team for Tyquan Thornton, who the Chiefs acquired on Monday for nothing.

In the midst of a wide receiver injury crisis, the Chiefs recently looked to Powell to provide Reid and Mahomes with additional depth at the position. But the team now thinks Thornton is more suited for his position.

Since the Chiefs selected Powell out of Clemson with the 181st overall choice in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Powell has remained in Kansas City. He hardly noticed the field, though.

Powell only had three opportunities to wear a Chiefs uniform, despite spending time with the organization during the previous four seasons.
