Shannon Sharpe’s Surreal Rant on First Take

On First Take, Stephen A. Smith was surprised when Shannon Sharpe aimed at Kirk Herbstreit. The NFL Hall of Famer warned college football expert Kirk Herbstreit after he criticized Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day in his comments on the live ESPN show.

As the Buckeyes defeated the Tennessee Volunteers 42–17 in the first round of the College Football Playoffs, color analyst Hebstreit criticized First Take for their previous remarks on Day.

Following Ohio State’s fourth consecutive season-ending loss to Michigan in November, several individuals thought Day should be fired or that his employment would only be guaranteed if the team won the championship.

Kirk Herbstreit’s comments and Shannon Sharpe’s rant

During the ESPN broadcast, Herbstreit stated: “‘First Take’ tried to fire him. They thought he was done, so I’ll be excited to see what they talk about on Monday after this performance,”

“They had him out, trying to find replacements. But here he is, he still has his hat on. He’s still coaching.”

Herbsreit’s harsh remarks against their program prompted First Take to react, and Sharpe wasn’t hesitant to do so. Shannon Sharpe said:

“I’m gonna be a good teammate. I’m gonna let it slide. Everybody’s at ESPN. Because had you not taken the route you’ve taken, I would’ve lit their (expletive) up,”

“If we’re going to be on the same team, if we’re gonna work for the same network, don’t do that. Kirk, Chris Fowler, I promise you, if you ever mention any platform that I’m on again talking about ‘I wonder what they’re going to say as negativity,’

“I promise you, ESPN ain’t got enough bosses to keep me off y’all for what I’m going to say… don’t play with me.”

Before Sharpe’s outburst, Stephen A. acknowledged that he should be the sole First Take star to accept responsibility for his previous insults of Day.

Sharpe’s tirade surprised the 57-year-old.
