Britney Spears is no stranger to headlines and yesterday (August 16) brought with it another major twist for the singer: her husband Sam Asghari has filed for divorce just 14 months after they married.

In the 24 hours that have passed, the rumor mill has cranked into overdrive about the pair (who began dating after meeting on the set of her ‘Slumber Party’ video in 2016).

Indeed, while all that has been publicly disclosed is that the aspiring actor cited “irreconcilable differences” in his filing, reports have claimed that Asghari is gearing up to challenge the couple’s prenup in a bid to force Spears’ hand for what effectively would amount to a “go peacefully” payment.

Breaking his silence, the 29-year-old has issued a statement – as have his reps – dispelling, well, everything.

Via social media, Asghari wrote about his break-up with his 41-year-old wife:

“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. Sh*t happens.

Asking for privacy seems ridiculous, so I will just ask everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful.”
