Royce O’Neale of the Phoenix Suns and Power Actress Paige Hurd Are Engaged

On February 13, while on a romantic vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the 32-year-old Power Book II: Ghost alumnus became engaged to 31-year-old Phoenix Suns forward Royce O’Neale at the Viceroy Riviera Maya, the couple exclusively confirms to PEOPLE.

At the opulent seaside resort, the couple was having a romantic supper with rose petals, a crackling fireplace, and gentle candlelight. They were given a piece of red velvet cake with the question “Will You Marry Me?” written on it as their last course.

People magazine was told by O’Neale: “I was feeling nervous because I wasn’t trying to give off any nerve-wracking behavior or give any signs that something was up,”

“I was really excited because I knew Paige wasn’t expecting it and wanted it to be a huge, special surprise.”

The NBA player claims that despite his plans getting “a little messed up” due to flight delays, the proposal nonetheless took place “right on time.”

Hurd “had absolutely no idea” that he was going to pop the question in the meantime. In the Lifetime film Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story, Hurd most recently played the title role. He said : “During the proposal I was in such shock, it took me about a full minute to stand to my feet,”

When Hurd called her family to share the news, she was still “in shock.”
