Over the weekend, NBA insider Marc Stein linked the Houston Rockets to a possible trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
“Words have started to circulate among rival teams keeping an eye on a possible down-the-road Houston pursuit” of the two-time MVP, Stein wrote on Sunday. The Rockets hadn’t been cited as an interested party, so Stein’s claim was bound to raise some eyebrows, even though there had been speculations about Antetokounmpo recently because of the Bucks’ dismal start.
Additionally, it caught the attention of Rockets beat journalists, and Kelly Iko of The Athletic confirmed on Wednesday that the story is untrue.
Fans react to Rockets not wanting to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo
Iko posted the following on his X account: “The Rockets are not interested in breaking up their core for Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo,” . “Houston, sitting at 10-5 and a game out of first in the West, remains focused on developing its young players as a collective.”

NBA fans dunked Houston for not only publicly expressing their lack of interest but also for thinking the team would have a chance to get Giannis in the first place, which caused them to jump on the Rockets for the report.
The Bucks are not interested in breaking up their role players for Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama, sources tell me. Milwaukee remains focused on developing its young players as a collective.

The Bucks are not interested in trading Giannis, nor is Giannis looking to leave. Get it right.

On the one hand, the Rockets’ young talent is genuine, making them a team to keep an eye on when a superstar does end up on the trade block. From any angle, the league’s top young core is comprised of Tari Eason, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., Jalen Green, and Alperen Sengun. Houston makes sense as a front-runner in those hypothetical trade talks, regardless of how likely it is that the Bucks will really move Giannis.
