RIAA: Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Freaky Girl’ Sets Record for Fastest Platinum-Certified Solo Rap Song of the Year

‘Super’ indeed!

Nicki Minaj‘s massive hit, ‘Super Freaky Girl,’ may have set several records when it blasted to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 upon its debut over the summer, but now the GRAMMY nominee is mirroring those wins at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) thanks to the tune’s ongoing success.

Details inside.

Wednesday (October 26), the RIAA took to press to announce ‘Super’ had flown past its threshold for Platinum certification – meaning it’s sold the equivalence of 1 million units in the United States.  She is the first and only female rapper (as of time reported) to have a song released this year to boast such status.

The feat was of particular note because it was accomplished only 75 days from its release, thereby making it the first solo Rap song released in 2022 to nab the plaque in such a short period of time.  No surprise given the Dr. Luke-produced bop entered the charts at #1 with the best first-week sales of the year at the time (as we reported here).

What’s more, ‘Super Freaky Girl’ is only the second solo Rap hit of the year (first by a female) to be certified Platinum overall.  It follows her ‘Do We Have a Problem?’ co-star Lil Baby whose April-released ‘In a Minute’ was certified Platinum just three months later.

The ‘Super’ update brings Minaj’s cumulative digital single sales tally to 37 million in the U.S., making her one of the best-selling female acts in the format’s history.
