RIAA: Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ Blasts Past Cardi B’s ‘Bodak Yellow’ To Become the Highest-Certified Female Rap Song in History

While Nicki Minaj is rocking audiences across North America with live renditions of her 2011 smash ‘Super Bass‘ aboard the ‘Pink Friday 2 Tour,’ she’s learned the Kane Beatz-produced bop has rocked the history books of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

In November 2021, Minaj made RIAA history when ‘Bass’ crossed the threshold for Diamond status – meaning it had sold the equivalence of 10 million copies in the United States.

On Friday (March 29), she found out she shattered the organization’s record books again – this time for the song reaching 12x Platinum (for sales equivalence of 12 million).

By doing so, Minaj now owns the highest-certified song in the 71-year history of the RIAA.

The previous titleholder, Cardi B‘s ‘I Like It’ and ‘Bodak Yellow,’ remain at 11x Platinum respectively as of time of this report.

Among all Rap songs, ‘Super Bass’ sits seventh on the all-time highest-certified list following Eminem‘s ‘Love the Way You Lie’ and ‘Lose Yourself’ (13x Platinum each), Wiz Khalifa‘s ‘See You Again’ (14x Platinum), Post Malone‘s ‘Congratulations‘ (14x Platinum), Drake‘s ‘God’s Plan‘ (16x Platinum), Lil Nas X‘s ‘Old Town Road’ (17x Platinum), and Post Malone and Swae Lee‘s ‘Sunflower’ (20x Platinum).

When songs led by women are considered, only Lorde‘s ‘Royals‘ (14x Platinum), Mariah Carey‘s ‘All I Want for Christmas’ (14x Platinum), and Miley Cyrus‘ ‘Party in the USA‘ (13x Platinum) can boast higher certifications than ‘Bass.’
