RIAA: JT Earns the First Gold Plaque of Her Solo Career Thanks to ‘Okay’

The City Girls (comprised of Hip-Hop stars Yung Miami and JT) may quietly sit in the record books of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as the most-certified female Rap ensemble of all time, but the Southern duo have yet to match or surpass the group’s success with their respective solo endeavors.

The road to reckoning got its first footprints recently, however, when the RIAA announced the former had collected the first unaccompanied plaque of her career thanks to the viral hit ‘Okay.’

Already logged as a personal milestone for JT (born Jatavia Johnson) as it marked her inaugural solo Hot 100 entry (#72 peak), ‘Okay’ – found aboard 2024’s critically acclaimed ‘City Cinderella‘ EP – is now marking another first for her.

Certified Gold for sales of 500,000 in the United States on January 6, the Akachi-produced song now shines as her first solo certification plaque from the RIAA.

It’s worth mentioning that Johnson is a featured act on the Gold-certified Summer Walker hit ‘Ex for a Reason,’ however, the RIAA – unlike Billboard – does not include an artists’ featured hits in their career sales counts.
