On Friday morning, Corbin K. Smith, a beat reporter for the Seattle Seahawks, shocked the NFL community by revealing that the Seahawks are considering a 27-year-old Pro Bowl wide receiver named DK Metcalf. Metcalf is the ideal receiver for the Green Bay Packers‘ squad, as we’ve stated multiple times at APC this offseason: a large receiver who can also stretch the field.
Smith’s allegation that the Packers offered Metcalf a “high pick and young receiver” shouldn’t have come as a surprise. In my opinion, “young receiver” refers to one of the Packers’ contract expiring players, perhaps Christian Watson or Romeo Doubs, for the 2025 campaign.
From my understanding, Seattle isn’t actively shopping Metcalf. But at least one team that has inquired feels that they have the trade package in place to make Schneider strongly consider pulling the trigger and he’s at least been willing to listen.

DK Metcalf trade refuted by NFL Insider
Similar to Smith, Peter Bukowski, a podcaster for Locked On, backed up Corbin’s first claim that the Packers are making bids for Metcalf. According to him, “If they can get it, the hope is trading Jaire Alexander to backfill some of the lost draft capital.”
Compensation is one area where the reporting appears to diverge. Smith claims that to get Metcalf, the Packers would need to trade for a first-round pick, one of Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks, and a Day 3 pick. But according to Bukowski, the Packers have never accepted that payment for a first-round pick.
Update: Matt Schneidman of The Athletic is now refuting the rumor, claiming that his source says the two parties have never discussed a Metcalf trade.
